Landscape painting has always been a favorite subject.
One of Stephen's most inspirational artists is Albert Bierstadt, who painted very large canvases depicting nature in a grand and dramatic style. He also used vivid colors and always focused light on a very specific area in the painting.
Frederic Remington's works are also an inspiration, as shown in Stephen's copy of Remington's South American volcano, for his personal collection.
Stephen paints his landscapes in several different styles including photo-realism, impressionism, and a style he calls “soft scenes” that don't have any real detail.
